We are committed to engaging openly and transparently with local communities and stakeholders throughout the development of the project.

Consultation activities have included a range of in-person and digital engagement, helping to inform the design of the project and identify local priorities. We also have a dedicated Small Donations Fund that has funded a number of local initiatives – see below for further information

As the project progresses, there will be further opportunities to learn more, ask questions, and provide feedback. A dedicated community liaison approach will ensure ongoing communication and support.

This year, we looking to support projects that focus on the following:

1. Environmental, Coastal and Recreation projects that might include –

  • Volunteer beach cleans (gear, skips, Hi -Vis vests etc)
  • Path repairs
  • Nature conservation
  • Habitat restoration
  • Supporting improved access to and recreation in our coasts and countryside

2. Youth projects focusing on skills & practical learning that might include -

  • STEM initiatives
  • Learning practical skills
  • Developing outdoor & environmental skills
  • Community & social impact projects

This is the 3rd year of the fund and we have been delighted to support some terrific community groups in the area who are making a real difference, including: Moray Firth Radio - Mission Christmas, Caithness Befrienders, Stromness Museum and Hoy Youth Club. Some quotes from our partners –

Nicola Budge, Hoy Development Trust - The funding Island of Hoy Development Trust has received from Ayre will enable the first annual service of our e-Bikes, allowing them to remain available for hire throughout 2026, either long or short term, to our island community - encouraging active travel and enhancing wellbeing.

Elspeth Manson, Caithness Befriending – This outing is particularly special for us, as Befriending has never been able to take people to an evening event before. It simply wouldn’t have been possible without the Small Donation Fund from Ayre Offshore Windfarm. The idea came from one of our Befriendees who said she really missed going to the pantomime but didn’t have transport or anyone to go with. Because of this donation, we’ve been able to make a memorable and much-missed experience possible.
